Andy Mendoza: The Heart Behind Tres Manos Coffee
Andy Mendoza, the proud owner of Tres Manos Coffee, is more than just a business owner; he’s a community figure with deep roots in Waco, Texas. Born and raised in Waco, Andy’s journey is a testament to the power of mentorship, community involvement, and a passion for giving back.
A Journey of Learning and Mentorship
"I never had the mindset of a business owner or thoughts of becoming an entrepreneur until I met a great friend of mine named Joey, owner of Freight. Through the multiple businesses he had, I was able to learn the ins and outs of operating a business."
This experience laid the foundation for his entrepreneurial spirit and inspired him to carve out his own path.
Andy’s story begins in Waco, where he attended schools throughout the Waco Independent School District, eventually graduating from Waco High School. Andy is actively involved in his community, often visiting the schools he once attended. His goal? To inspire the next generation to seek better opportunities and create a brighter future.
“Just being there for the community, especially within the education world. I was a part of LEAD and I am now coming back as a mentor”
Andy says, highlighting his commitment to giving back.
Andy later found his love for business through spending time with his friend, Joey Oglesby, owner of Freight Icehouse and YardBar. Through getting to know Joey’s multiple businesses, Andy was able to learn the ins and outs of operating a business.
The Birth of Tres Manos Coffee
On December 1, 2023, Andy launched Tres Manos Coffee, a venture that beautifully blends his love for coffee with his deep connection to Waco. Tres Manos, which translates to “three hands,” represents something deeply personal to Andy.
“A lot of people go through a phase in life like the desert. But you have the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. Tres Manos”
Andy explains. It’s not just a business name; it’s a reflection of faith and resilience, symbolizing the guidance and support that have shaped his journey.
Andy’s vision for Tres Manos is rooted in community. Both he and his wife, also Waco natives, are dedicated to highlighting local businesses through their offerings.
“Tres Manos highlights the local community, here in Waco. My wife and I are both local here - born and raised in Waco. We offer local products. All our coffees and syrups are made here in Waco - so we can highlight other local businesses”
More Than Just Coffee - Creating an Experience
Though Tres Manos Coffee doesn’t have a permanent location yet, you can find Andy at the Waco Farmers Market every Saturday. His passion for serving his community extends beyond just providing a great cup of coffee. For Andy, it’s about creating a memorable experience.
“A lot of people will ask - where can we find you? Since I don’t have a set location yet, I am at the Farmer’s Market every Saturday. But if anyone is looking for coffee to be catered - for a wedding, business meeting, school, party - I would love to serve them and not just to give them coffee, but to give them an experience,”
Tres Manos offers a rotating seasonal menu that keeps things fresh and exciting. From fall-inspired drinks to refreshing summer sips, Andy ensures there’s always something new to enjoy.
